Penn State Lehigh Valley @ Penn State Mont Alto Invitational
The Penn State Lehigh Valley golf team took second place out of nine teams, with a field of nearly fifty golfers present, at the Penn State Mount Alto Invitational on September 4, 2013.
Sophomore David Caffrey posted a solid 82 on a challenging Penn National Founders Course to lead the team. Ian Burke carded five birdies to shoot 85, which matched the score of teammate Shane Rhodes. Nathan Bloomfield shot 89 to complete the team score.
Martin Dawson and James Burgess posted rounds of 96 and 105, respectively.
"This was a tight opening match for us," said first year head coach Brian Exton. "Despite a few big numbers from wayward shots early in the day, I was really impressed by how our team responded on the back nine. It's a great start to our season."
In related news, the golf team recently named Locust Valley Golf Club in Coopersburg as its home course. Penn State alumnus and local businessman Robert Ashford purchased the course in 2012.
